Is New Zealand REALLY 'Clean and Green'?
When it comes to waste we’re not as clean and green as we might think we are. According to packaging consumption statistics, we use more than double the amount we recycle. When we’re out and about, each year Kiwis are using:
-
15,438 tonnes of plastic packaging = 400 million plastic drink bottles
-
1,293 tonnes of aluminium cans = 76 million cans
-
22,915 tonnes glass packaging = 129 million beer bottles; and
-
Around 5,000 tonnes paperboard packaging such as cups and cartons.
Be part of the solution …
Love NZ aims to reduce these numbers significantly through better recycling awareness and our strategically placed recycling bins all around the country. When you see a Love NZ bin, you can recycle your used bottles and cans, knowing that they will be put to good use.
Who is behind Love NZ?
We are proud to have the support of our government, with the assistance of a 2 million dollar recycling campaign to help keep New Zealand tidy. The Glass Packaging Forum has taken on an active management role, financially backing us with $500,000 to improve and promote glass recycling and lending its years of product stewardship expertise to the Love NZ vision. Local Councils and businesses are also among our key supporters. Please feel free to get in touch with us or view our profiles to find out more.
Since we started we have raised around $700,000 from major brands including BP, Coca Cola, Lion,
Progressive Enterprises, Huhtamaki, OCS , The Warehouse, Tetra Pak and Z Energy so that we can
increase our advertising and promotions and put more Love NZ recycling bins around the country.
